Self-determination & experiential expertise
What can we do to promote self-determination in people with intellectual disabilities? After all, feeling in control of your life has a positive impact on your sense of wellbeing. People with intellectual disabilities possess indispensable knowledge based on their own lived experiences, and as experts-by-experience, they can apply their knowledge in the context of healthcare, education, and academia. So, how can we work with individuals with intellectual disabilities to make better use of their lived experiences?
