Meaningful interactions: exploring the influence of personal characteristics and the experiences of people with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities (PIMD)

This postdoctoral research project builds on previous PhD research into meaningful interactions between people with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities (PIMD) and their support professionals. Whereas the PhD research focused primarily on the role of the support professional, this postdoctoral study places the person with PIMD at the centre of the research. The study investigates how the characteristics of people with PIMD may influence the emergence of meaningful interactions. Its aim is to support professionals in creating meaningful interaction opportunities with people with PIMD. In addition, the study explores how people with PIMD experience meaningful moments, providing greater insight into what they themselves value and enjoy in these interactions.
