Better utilizing experiential expertise

By optimally utilizing the knowledge and expertise of people with intellectual disabilities and their support networks (parents, siblings, volunteers), and involving them equally and effectively in care, care and support can truly better meet their needs. The aim of this research project is to gain insight into what people with intellectual disabilities themselves, and their support networks, need for a good quality of life, and how healthcare organizations can respond to this. Good examples of collaboration between people with intellectual disabilities, their support networks, and healthcare professionals will also be identified. The effective elements of this collaboration can ultimately serve as a guide or tool for other healthcare providers, when combined.
