Sisters of people with intellectual disabilities
Sisters often play a long-term and important role in the lives of their sister or brother with intellectual disabilities who live in a residential care facility. In the life stage in which young adult sisters take important steps toward employment, relationships and/or starting a family, their involvement deserves specific attention. Understanding their experiences and needs is also important given the increasing importance of informal support.
For this reason, the Academic Collaborative Centre Living with an Intellectual Disability
(AWVB) conducted research into the experiences of sisters.
