Epilepsy and self-determination

Epilepsy occurs more often in people with mild intellectual disabilities than in the general population and can have a major impact on daily life. For instance, it may increase dependency on others and limit personal control.

Together with the Kempenhaeghe Epilepsy Center, the AWVB studied how people with mild intellectual disabilities and epilepsy experience autonomy and control over their own lives. The main results are summarized in this factsheet.
