Collaboration with healthcare professionals

Family members play an important role in the lives of people with severe or profound intellectual disabilities. They have unique knowledge about their relatives and provide lifelong support. Good collaboration between family members and care professionals is essential to ensure that experiential knowledge and professional expertise are equally valued. However, such collaboration does not always occur naturally.
