The Academic Collaborative Center Living with an Intellectual Disability (AWVB) is a partnership between 17 service providers, the Dutch national advocacy organisation for people with intellectual disabilities (LFB), and Tilburg University. The AWVB conducts scientific research in collaboration with individuals with intellectual disabilities, their families, and healthcare professionals. We also develop accessible resources that allow healthcare professionals to immediately apply current research findings to their practice.

The AWVB was founded in December 2011 under the leadership of Professor Petri Embregts. She has held the chair of People with an Intellectual Disability: Psychopathology and Treatment at Tilburg University since 2010.

The AWVB is part of Tranzo, the scientific centre for care and wellbeing of Tilburg University in the Netherlands. Tranzo is part of the School of Social and Behavioural Sciences (TSB) of Tilburg University.
